Egypt proposes 2-day ceasefire in Gaza
Stockholm, October 28 (Hibya) - Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi proposed a two-day ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and stated that the exchange of four Israeli detainees with some Palestinian detainees could serve as a potential starting point.
During a press conference related to the Algerian President’s visit to Egypt, el-Sisi said that Egypt is working to calm the situation in Gaza and has launched a plan for a two-day ceasefire, followed by negotiations for a permanent ceasefire and the delivery of humanitarian aid to the besieged area.
Meanwhile, Mossad head David Barnea flew to Doha on Sunday to discuss progress toward a hostages' release agreement with CIA Director Bill Burns and Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
According to the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office, officials will discuss “various possibilities for resuming negotiations for the release of hostages held by the Palestinian Islamic Movement, in light of recent developments.”
An Israeli official told The Times of Israel that the Palestinian Islamic Movement would not participate in this round of meetings, but mediators might facilitate discussions in subsequent rounds.
