Lazzarini: Famine in Gaza Confirmed
Gaza, August 22 (Hibya) – Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), stated that famine in Gaza has been confirmed, calling for a ceasefire and humanitarian access.
UNRWA Commissioner-General Lazzarini made a statement on the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
Lazzarini stressed that months of warnings were ignored, saying: “In Gaza City, famine is now confirmed.”
He argued that the famine is a “manufactured hunger” and the result of Israeli government policies.
The statement noted that food and essential supplies have been blocked for months, including UNRWA aid.
The Commissioner-General emphasized that the spread of famine can be prevented by ensuring a ceasefire and allowing humanitarian organizations to reach those in need.
Lazzarini concluded: “It is now time to show political will.”
