Putin said Russia launched an experimental ballistic missile at Ukraine
Moscow, November 22 (Hibya) – Vladimir Putin announced that Russia launched an experimental ballistic missile at a military facility in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro on Thursday morning, saying that Moscow has the "right" to strike Western countries that supply weapons used against Russian targets.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, in an unexpected televised address to the nation and the Russian Armed Forces personnel, stated that the launched ballistic missile was called "Oreshnik" (nut) and its deployment was "a response to U.S. plans to produce and deploy medium- and short-range missiles." He added that Russia would respond "decisively and symmetrically" in the event of escalation.
Putin has repeatedly warned Western countries providing military aid to Ukraine since the start of the war in February 2022: "Russia reserves the right to use weapons against targets in countries that allow their weapons to be used against Russian targets."
American and British sources reported that the missile launched at Dnipro was an experimental nuclear-capable intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) with a theoretical range of under 5,500 km. This range is sufficient to reach Europe from its launch site in southwestern Russia but insufficient to reach the United States.
