Szijjarto calls on the European Commission over Druzhba pipeline
Budapest, August 22 (Hibya) - Hungarian Foreign and Trade Minister Peter Szijjarto and Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar called on the European Commission to act over Ukraine’s attacks on the Druzhba oil pipeline.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Szijjarto, together with his Slovak counterpart Blanar, sent a letter to the European Commission.
The letter requested the Commission to take action due to Ukraine’s repeated attacks on the Druzhba oil pipeline.
Szijjarto stated that this was the third attack in just a few weeks, and as a result, oil supplies to Hungary and Slovakia would be halted for at least five days.
He argued that these attacks harm Hungary and Slovakia more than Russia.
The statement emphasized that the Druzhba pipeline is of critical importance for the energy supply of both countries and that transporting oil via alternative routes is not possible.
Szijjarto also noted that the European Commission had promised in January to take measures against such attacks, but after three attacks no steps had been taken. He said in his statement: “Brussels must understand: they are the European Commission, not the Ukrainian Commission.”
