Trump to impose a 25% tariff on the EU
Washington, February 27 (Hibya) - U.S. President Donald Trump announced that a 25% tariff would be imposed on the European Union, which he claimed was established to challenge the United States.
U.S. President Donald Trump announced today that a decision has been made to impose a 25% tariff on all imports from the European Union to the United States. Trump stated that the EU was created to "work against" the U.S.
It is still unclear whether Trump's proposed tariffs will cover only EU countries or also include Iceland and other countries in the European Economic Area.
Earlier this month, the European Union announced that it would respond in kind if the U.S. imposed tariffs on imports from the EU.
There are two rumors regarding when Trump's tariffs on Canada and Mexico will take effect. These tariffs were postponed by a month in February after both countries pledged to address U.S. concerns about the movement of people and drugs across the border.
During a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Trump stated that the tariffs would take effect on April 2, but according to a White House official, the planned implementation date is March 4.
