TÜİK - Number of electronic books in university libraries increased by 23.4 per cent
Istanbul, June 7 (Hibya) - The number of electronic books in university libraries across Turkey increased by 23.4 percent to 118 million 373 thousand 442 in 2023 compared to the previous year.
According to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), the number of registered members of university libraries in Turkey, which is 627 in total, including 477 public and 150 foundation universities, increased by 5.3 percent to 4 million 199 thousand 285, and the number of non-book materials increased by 8.8 percent to 1 million 662 thousand 552.
According to TurkStat data, the number of people benefiting from public libraries increased by 25.3 per cent to 33 million 561 thousand 919 in the same period. The number of members registered in public libraries increased by 11.2 per cent to 6 million 193 thousand 356 people in the same period.
The number of published materials increased by 18.4 per cent in 2023 compared to 2022 and reached 99 thousand 25. When the publications were analysed according to their subjects, 29.9 percent of the materials published in 2023 were academic, 19.9 percent were educational, and 17.6 percent were adult fiction literature.
