15 people killed in landslides and floods in Sumatra
Stockholm, November 26 (Hibya) - Landslides and floods in Karo, a region in Indonesia's North Sumatra province, have claimed the lives of 15 people.
Indonesian rescue authorities are still searching for seven people missing for four days after landslides occurred in northern Sumatra. So far, the bodies of 15 victims have been found in four settlements on the island.
Heavy rain over the weekend caused significant flooding and landslides in Sumatra, and continued rainfall has made rescue operations difficult. Roads have been blocked, making it challenging to access affected villages.
Houses, mosques, and rice fields on the island have suffered significant damage.
Indonesian authorities warned residents of North Sumatra yesterday that the risk of floods and landslides remains high, as more heavy rains are expected in the coming days and even weeks according to weather forecasts.
