About 2,000 people arrested during protests in Venezuela
Stockholm, August 4 (Hibya) - Thousands of Venezuelans held protests across South America on Saturday due to disputed presidential elections, while Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said about 2,000 people were arrested during the protests.
According to Venezuelan media reports, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, speaking to his supporters in Caracas, said that the arrested would receive "the heaviest penalties", emphasizing that "there will be no amnesty this time".
Speaking before a large crowd in Caracas, opposition leader Maria Corina Machado said, "After six days of brutal repression, they thought they could silence us, terrorize us, and paralyze us".
The UN, EU, US, and several South American countries expressed doubts about the vote count and demanded that the election authority publish the election results.
