Aslan said İzmir is an important hub for the aquaculture sector, adding that they held various meetings as part of the fair organized in the city and assessed work for the coming period. Aslan said the press plays an important role in conveying the activities of civil society organizations to the public.

Assessing the future of the sector, Aslan said that in addition to existing production capacity, infrastructure and integration efforts also need to be developed. Emphasizing the importance of the public sector, universities and the private sector acting in line with common goals, Aslan said, “The era of producing only for the domestic or regional market is over. If you cannot adapt on a national or international scale, you will be left outside the system.”

Aslan also referred to the aquaculture summit planned to be held in Elazığ, saying the summit aims to bring together different actors in the sector. Noting that links between promotion, production, the public sector, universities and the private sector need to be strengthened, Aslan said Türkiye’s aquaculture resources must be protected and passed on to future generations.

Aslan also spoke about the professional organization of aquaculture engineers, saying engineers need stronger organization within their own field. He said efforts to organize aquaculture engineers under a separate professional chamber are on their agenda, adding that engineers working in the field should have a greater say in decision-making processes.

Aslan said work on public-sector reforms and technical regulations in the profession would continue, adding that accumulated experience from the past must be preserved and carried into the future.

Özsoy: The fair was less vibrant this year

ANASUMDER İzmir Branch President Dr. Erdem Özsoy also shared his assessment of the aquaculture fair held in İzmir.

Özsoy said the fair was held for the 12th time and takes place every two years, adding that this year’s event was less vibrant compared with previous years. Özsoy said that in addition to economic conditions, wars taking place in the region and around the world may also have contributed to this situation.

During the program, ANASUMDER executives said that science, the public sector, universities, the private sector and professional organizations need to work on common ground in order for the aquaculture sector to develop a stronger structure.
