Around 160,000 children in Gaza vaccinated against polio in two days
Stockholm, September 3 (Hibya) - Around 160,000 children in Gaza have been vaccinated against polio in the past two days, local health officials announced on Facebook.
The UN aims to vaccinate 640,000 children in Gaza against the disease. The first case of the poliovirus was found in a 10-month-old baby. It was the first case of polio in Gaza in 25 years.
The vaccination program began on Sunday after the World Health Organization (WHO) agreed with Israel to temporarily halt fighting and bombing in Gaza.
The polio virus can cause permanent paralysis and is, therefore, also known as polio.
