At least 15 people dead after heavy rains in Sri Lanka
Stockholm, June 3 (Hibya) - Floods and landslides caused by monsoon rains have killed at least fifteen people in Sri Lanka.
The country's disaster management centre, DMC, told the BBC that power had been cut in many areas, and schools had been ordered to remain closed. In total, the rain-affected 20 of the country's 25 regions.
DMC director Pradeep Kodippili told the BBC that landslide warnings had been issued in nine areas, and the risk of flooding rapidly increased in the capital, Colombo, and other regions in the south.
Pradeep Kodippili said many areas have received more than 400 millimetres of rain.
