At least 3 dead as highway overpass collapses in South Korea
Seoul, February 25 (Hibya) - A devastating construction accident in Anseong, South Korea, claimed the lives of at least three workers and injured five others.
Early this morning, a section of a still-under-construction highway overpass collapsed.
The vast construction site on the outskirts of Anseong became the scene of frantic rescue efforts, as emergency teams raced against time to reach those trapped under tons of concrete and twisted steel.
The national fire department reported that three people were killed and six were injured, five of them critically. Other reports stated that seven were injured.
Firefighters said authorities were still searching for another person believed to be buried under the debris.
Rescue workers were seen inspecting twisted metal supports and broken concrete slabs beneath the bridge's columns.
South Korea’s interim president, Choi Sang-mok, called for the mobilization of all available personnel and resources to rescue the missing and ensure public safety.
The Ministry of Transport said it had dispatched officials to the site.
