Baerbock: Germany closed 16 coal plants in 2024
Berlin, November 20 (Hibya) - German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock announced that 16 coal power plants were shut down this year in Germany.
German Foreign Minister Baerbock stated that Germany closed 16 coal plants in 2024 and added that renewable energy sources make up nearly 60% of electricity consumption.
Baerbock emphasized that gas demand has decreased and that Germany still has one of the most stable grids in the world, stating:
"We are also doing our part. To everyone thinking of turning back the clock: solutions to the climate crisis are the greatest economic opportunity. Global investments in green energy are twice those in fossil fuels. No investor wants their investments to be stranded."
