Blinken speaks to Saudi, Qatari leaders to ensure "Hamas does not remain in power"
Washington, October 18 (Hibya) - U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken discussed with his counterparts in Saudi Arabia and Qatar on Thursday ongoing efforts to end the Israel-Hamas conflict following the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar and secure the release of hostages, according to the ministry.
“The secretary discussed ensuring Hamas does not remain in power and ongoing efforts to achieve a post-conflict era in Gaza that provides a path for the people of Gaza to rebuild their lives and realize their aspirations,” the ministry said in a statement about Blinken’s meeting with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.
They also discussed the situation in Lebanon and the urgent need to deliver humanitarian aid to all vulnerable populations there.
Blinken’s meeting with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani similarly “emphasized the need to chart a path for the people of Gaza to rebuild their lives and fulfil their aspirations, free from war and the clutches of Hamas,” the statement said.
In both meetings, Blinken “expressed appreciation for the humanitarian assistance provided by Saudi Arabia to Lebanon and reaffirmed ongoing U.S. efforts to promote a diplomatic solution along the Blue Line implementing United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701,” the statement said.
