Boeing to lay off 17,000 workers
Stockholm, October 12 (Hibya) - American aircraft manufacturer Boeing has decided to lay off 17,000 workers worldwide. This corresponds to about 10 percent of its workforce.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the company also warned that the ongoing strike will result in major losses.
The launch of the new 777X aircraft model, already postponed, will be postponed even further. Development of the 767 freighter will also be suspended.
Negotiations with the strikers, which number about 33,000, ended in disagreement earlier this week. The strike, which has been ongoing since September 13, means that factory production has reached a standstill.
