Canada's Foreign Minister Joly: Canada Will Not Back Down
Ottawa, February 2 (Hibya) - Canada's Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly stated that the tariffs imposed by the United States (USA) are completely unfair, adding: "Canadians are united against this economic threat."
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau confirmed that the US plans to impose a 25% tariff on most Canadian goods and a 10% tariff on energy starting in February.
Trudeau noted that he had consulted with prime ministers and cabinet members and would soon meet with Mexico’s President Sheinbaum. "We did not want this, but Canada is ready. Tonight, I will address Canadians," he said.
Foreign Minister Joly emphasized that Canadians are the strongest allies and best neighbors of the United States.
She described the new tariffs as completely unfair and stated: "Canadians are united against this economic threat. Canada will not back down."
