It was reported that Pope Francis, the spiritual leader of Catholics and the Head of the Vatican State, passed away this morning.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau shared a message of condolence.

In his message, Trudeau stated:

"I extend my deepest condolences to the entire world, especially Catholics, who are mourning the passing of Pope Francis. As a Jesuit, he showed that the highest form of true reasoning lies in compassion and service to all of God’s creation — something that deeply touched and inspired me in our conversations. The legacy he leaves in Canada — especially his efforts towards reconciliation — will continue to inspire Canadians. His life and leadership were shaped by this greatness of heart."
