Participants emphasized that AI-generated content should be clearly labeled and that oversight mechanisms should be strengthened.
The Fifth China Media Group (CMG) Forum was held today in Chongqing, China. Ahead of the forum, CGTN conducted a global survey on the role of artificial intelligence in media transformation.
Some 78.2 percent of respondents stated that significant changes have occurred in the way news is presented in the media in the intelligent era powered by AI technologies.
Meanwhile, 71.7 percent of respondents indicated that the role of the media in transmitting civilizations and promoting cultural exchange will become even stronger in the intelligent era.
Survey participants also expressed caution regarding the potential risks posed by AI technologies in the media sector. A total of 95.9 percent stated that media products created using generative AI should be clearly distinguishable and labeled when published. Another 92 percent called on media organizations to improve oversight mechanisms for AI-generated content. Additionally, 91.1 percent said that the use of AI in the media should be regulated through laws and regulations in order to preserve a healthy and diverse media ecosystem.
Some 77.4 percent of respondents stated that strengthening international cooperation among media organizations could help address the challenges brought by the AI era and contribute to building a more resilient global media ecosystem.
The survey, published in English, Spanish, French, Arabic and Russian, received votes and opinions from 7,438 internet users within 24 hours.
