Exports rose by 7.1% to 25.45 trillion yuan, while imports grew by 2.3% to 18.39 trillion yuan.

Deputy Director of the National Trade Bureau, Wang Lingjun, said at a press conference on Monday that China's foreign trade growth last year was relatively fast compared to other major economies in the world.

According to Xinhua, the official stated, "China has become a major trading partner for over 150 countries and regions, and the country's circle of trade partners is expanding."

He noted that high-tech goods showed good growth last year, and new forms of trade, such as cross-border e-commerce, are rapidly developing.

According to the GTU report, China's trade volume with Russia in 2024 rose by 1.9%, reaching $244.82 billion. Exports increased by 4.1% to $115.5 billion, while imports remained nearly unchanged from 2023 levels, reaching $129.32 billion.

In December, China's total dollar-denominated exports grew by 10.7% compared to the same month last year, marking the ninth consecutive month of growth.

Trading Economics analysts had projected an average increase of 7.3%.

Exports from China to the United States increased by 15.6%, to ASEAN countries by 18.9%, to the European Union by 8.8%, and to South Korea by 4%.

Imports to China rose by 1% last month, reaching a 27-month high of $230.79 billion. Experts had anticipated a 1.5% decline.

China's trade surplus in December reached $104.84 billion, up from $97.44 billion in November and $75.31 billion in December 2023. This was the highest figure in ten months.

Notably, the trade surplus with the United States reached $33.5 billion, compared to $34.9 billion in November.
