Costa welcomed the agreement reached by the EU Council on the 18th sanctions package against Russia.

He stressed that pressure on Russia would continue in order to weaken its capacity to wage war against Ukraine. “Our support for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine is unshakable,” Costa said.

Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky also confirmed the adoption of the 18th sanctions package, stating:

“We added a simple rule to European regulations: if we suspect that goods may reach Russia via a third country, even if they are not dual-use items, we have the option to require the exporter to obtain an export license. This closes the backdoor to re-export.”
