Cristiano Ronaldo becomes the first man to score 900 goals in his career
Lisbon, Sept 6 (Hibya) - Soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo scored the 900th goal of his career in Portugal's UEFA Nations League group stage match against Croatia in Lisbon on Thursday.
The five-time Ballon d'Or winner volleyed home Nuno Mendes' cross 34 minutes into the first half to double Portugal's lead in a 2-1 victory.
Ronaldo's goal was his 131st for Portugal and extended his record for most international goals in world football. The Portugal captain became the first male player in history to score 900 goals in official matches, adding to his 769 goals in his club career.
According to ESPN, longtime rival Lionel Messi is second with 842 goals, while Brazilian legend Pelé is third with 765.
Ronaldo's latest milestone adds to a highly decorated career that includes holding the record for most Champions League goals of all time (141).
The five-time Champions League winner started his club career at Portuguese side Sporting CP before joining Manchester United in 2003. After six seasons at United, Ronaldo moved to Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid, where he scored 450 goals in 438 appearances in nine years. Ronaldo returned to the Red Devils in 2021 after two years at Italian side Juventus, where he played until 2023 before moving to Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr.
