EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Borrell met with Badr Abdelatty to congratulate him on his appointment as Egypt's Foreign Minister and to reaffirm the partnership. Borrell noted that they discussed the situation in Gaza, the war in Sudan, and the security of the Red Sea.

"We agreed on the need to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and provide urgent support to the Palestinian Authority. We discussed the dramatic situation and political deadlock in Sudan," said Borrell.

Borrell emphasized the need to increase pressure on the warring parties and reach an international agreement to advance negotiations. "I welcome our cooperation in ensuring freedom of navigation in the Red Sea," added Borrell.
