French politician Jean-Marie Le Pen passed away
Paris, January 7 (Hibya) – Jean-Marie Le Pen, founder of the National Front Party in France, passed away at the age of 96.
According to CNN, Jean-Marie Le Pen, father of Marine Le Pen and a defining figure in France’s post-war far-right movement, passed away at the age of 96.
In 1956, at the age of 27, Le Pen was elected to the French National Assembly. Later, in 1972, he founded the National Front with veterans of France's colonial disasters in Algeria and Indochina, as well as Nazi collaborators.
In 2007, he became the oldest presidential candidate, making his fifth unsuccessful attempt. He remained a member of the European Parliament until his 90th birthday, continuing in office until 2019.
