Futures indexes point to a higher start to the week
Istanbul, July 27 (Hibya) – U.S. equity index futures opened the new trading day on a positive note. Futures for the Dow Jones, S&P 500, and Nasdaq advanced, while the sharp decline in oil prices and the drop in the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield drew attention.
Ahead of the new trading session, U.S. equity index futures traded higher across global markets. As investors' risk appetite improved, the upward trend gained momentum, led by technology stocks.
Dow Jones futures rose 0.65% to 52,464.00 points. S&P 500 futures gained 0.78% to 7,505.25 points, while the technology-heavy Nasdaq futures climbed 1.31% to 28,653.50 points.
Meanwhile, selling pressure continued in commodity markets. U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil fell 5.07% to $84.78. The sharp decline in oil prices was seen as a development that could weigh on energy stocks.
In the bond market, demand for safe-haven assets pushed the yield on the U.S. 10-year Treasury note down by 0.047 percentage points to 4.632%.
Global investors continue to closely monitor corporate earnings, expectations regarding the U.S. Federal Reserve's (Fed) monetary policy, and macroeconomic data, while the gains in futures indexes pointed to optimistic expectations for the new trading session.
