Ghebreyesus calls for humanitarian corridor to Israel
Geneva, April 1 (Hibya) - World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has called on Israel to urgently provide a humanitarian corridor so that the WHO and its partners can carry out vital patient referrals.
Ghebreyesus stated that since the hospital was besieged on March 18, 21 patients have lost their lives. According to the latest updates from Al-Shifa Hospital, fighting continues around the hospital. This was reported by a healthcare worker inside the hospital.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus noted that there are 107 patients inside the hospital in an inadequate building lacking necessary medical support, medical care, and equipment. "We call on Israel to urgently provide access and create a humanitarian corridor to facilitate vital patient referrals by WHO and its partners," he said.
