Ghebreyesus on bird flu cases: No human-to-human transmission reported
Geneva, July 11 (Hibya) - WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus made a statement on H5N1 bird flu cases.
WHO Director-General Ghebreyesus noted that last week, the United States reported a fourth human case of H5N1 after exposure to infected dairy cows, adding, “Cambodia also reported two cases in children who had contact with sick or dead chickens.”
Ghebreyesus said that so far, no human-to-human transmission has been reported, and added:
“Therefore, WHO continues to assess the risk to the general public as low. However, our ability to assess and manage this risk is compromised due to limited global surveillance of influenza viruses in animals.”
