Guterres: Attacks in the Gulf must stop, diplomacy must resume
New York, July 13 (Hibya) - United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed deep concern over the escalating military tensions in the Gulf region and called on Iran and the United States (US) to resume negotiations.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres issued a statement regarding the military tensions in the Gulf region.
In a post on social media, Guterres said he was deeply concerned by the military escalation resulting from Iran's attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz, the US attacks on Iran, and Iran's attacks on targets in neighboring countries.
Stressing that all attacks must cease, Guterres warned that a renewed large-scale conflict in the region would have severe consequences for the peoples of the region, international peace and security, and the global economy.
UN Secretary-General Guterres called on Iran and the United States to urgently resume negotiations and address the outstanding issues through diplomacy.
