Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi calls for an emergency UNSC meeting
Tehran, 28 October (Hibya) - Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi called on the UN Secretary-General and the President of the UN Security Council for an urgent meeting following Israel's aggression.
After Israel's aggressive attack on some military facilities within Iran’s borders, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi sent a letter to the UN Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council, requesting an emergency meeting to condemn this aggression.
Araghchi condemned Israel's action as a blatant violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as a violation of international law principles, including Article 2(4) of the UN Charter, which prohibits the use of force.
The letter emphasized that this act of aggression, similar to the genocide in Gaza and warmongering in Lebanon, poses a serious threat to international peace and security and increases instability in the region.
The Foreign Minister noted in part of the letter that "although most of the missiles were intercepted by Iranian defense systems, the aggressive action of the Zionist regime caused damage to the targeted locations and led to the martyrdom of four members of the Islamic Republic of Iran's Armed Forces."
Araghchi also stressed in the letter that the Islamic Republic of Iran reserves the right to respond to this criminal act of aggression in accordance with the principles of the UN Charter and international law.
