Israel confirms delay in the return of Palestinian prisoners
Stockholm, January 30 (Hibya) - According to a statement from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office, Israel has suspended the release of Palestinian prisoners until the "safe release" of the hostages is ensured. Hamas has called on mediators to intervene.
Today, around 110 Palestinian prisoners were supposed to be released in exchange for three Israeli hostages, but buses carrying the prisoners have since been turned back.
Netanyahu's office stated that the delay will continue "until the safe exit of our hostages is guaranteed in the coming days." Israel is demanding that mediators achieve this.
The Prime Minister had previously condemned the "horrific scenes" of two Israeli hostages released in Khan Younis being escorted through a chaotic crowd to Red Cross vehicles.
In response, Hamas has called on the mediators of the ceasefire agreement between the group and Israel to intervene.
