Israel enters southern Lebanon carrying out a "limited ground operation"
Stockholm, October 1 (Hibya) - Israel entered southern Lebanon with what the army (IDF) described as a "limited ground operation" that began on Tuesday night. Israel also launched several airstrikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut.
Late Monday night, IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari announced the operation, writing, "In accordance with a political decision, the IDF launched a few hours ago a targeted and limited ground operation in southern Lebanon against terrorist targets and Hezbollah infrastructure in several villages close to the border that pose an immediate and real threat."
The operation is called "Northern Arrow", and according to the IDF, ground forces are supported by the Israeli air force and artillery. They also said they have been preparing for the ground offensive for several months.
Israeli officials said there would be no "long-term occupation" of Lebanon but declined to give a timeline.
