Israeli forces kill at least 60 Palestinians searching for food in Gaza
Stockholm, June 12 (Hibya) – According to local health authorities, Israeli forces killed at least 60 Palestinians in Gaza on Wednesday, most of whom were seeking food from a U.S.-Israel distribution plan.
Medical officials said at least 25 people were killed and dozens injured as they approached a food distribution center operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) near Netzarim in central Gaza.
Later in the day, at least 14 people were killed by Israeli fire while heading to another GHF distribution center in Rafah, on Gaza’s southern border. On Tuesday, Israeli troops killed 17 Palestinians near GHF centers.
Gaza health officials said Wednesday that the death toll of Palestinians during the 20-month conflict has exceeded 55,000. The Health Ministry is part of the Hamas government but is managed by medical professionals, and its statistics are considered reliable by the UN and other global institutions.
In recent days, an increasing number of deaths have been linked to GHF’s food distribution. On Wednesday, the New York-based Center for Constitutional Rights warned GHF of its “potential legal liability for complicity in war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide against Palestinians” committed by Israel.
Senior attorney Katherine Gallagher stated, “As Palestinians face mass starvation, Israel has collaborated with GHF to make access to food not only dangerous and potentially deadly but also a tool of forced displacement – if GHF continues militarized aid operations, it must be prepared to face legal consequences, whether in the United States or abroad.”
