Rome, September 6 (Hibya) - Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni met with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.

Meloni noted that the meeting discussed the strategic nature of the partnership between the two nations and the commitment to continue deepening cooperation in all sectors of interest, starting with energy, as well as Azerbaijan’s upcoming chairmanship at COP29 in Baku.
"I also wanted to reaffirm Italy's commitment to the stability and prosperity of the Caucasus region and express support for the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan to achieve lasting peace while highlighting that the European Union’s role is an integral part of this process," Meloni added.
Meloni further stated that the meeting allowed for an in-depth discussion of key topics on the international agenda and the confirmation of joint synergies within the framework of the Mattei Plan. "At the end of the meeting, ENI and SOCAR signed three memorandums of understanding in the fields of energy security, greenhouse gas emissions reduction, and the biofuel production chain," she concluded.
