Kremlin: New US tariffs unlikely to benefit Russia
Moscow, April 4 (Hibya) – Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said it is unlikely that the results of new US tariffs will benefit Russia.
Previously, US President Donald Trump announced that "reciprocal" tariffs would be imposed on imports from other countries. The basic minimum rate will be 10%, but it will be calibrated for each country and will equal half the amount paid by companies importing American goods.
In the customs tariff announcement made by the US yesterday, no additional tariffs against Russia were mentioned.
At the same time, a 20% tariff will apply to goods coming from the EU. According to Trump, this will be a declaration of US "economic independence" and will help use "trillions and trillions of dollars" to pay off the national debt.
When asked by journalists whether the American tariffs would benefit Russia, Peskov responded, “It’s unlikely that this will be in Russia’s favor.”
