Lavrov and Rubio held a phone conversation
Moscow, June 2 (Hibya) – The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a phone call in which they discussed the situation related to the Ukraine crisis.
The statement said: "A phone conversation took place between Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Rubio. The situation regarding the crisis in Ukraine was discussed."
The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that Secretary Rubio expressed "his sincere condolences over civilian casualties caused by the bombing of railway infrastructure in the Bryansk and Kursk regions on June 1."
The ministry added: "The Russian side emphasized that the competent authorities are conducting a thorough investigation and the results will be published in the very near future. The perpetrators will certainly be identified and will inevitably receive the punishment they deserve."
The statement also noted that Lavrov and Rubio exchanged views on various initiatives for a political resolution to the Ukraine crisis, including plans to resume direct Russia–Ukraine negotiations in Istanbul on June 2.
