Lazzarini: Child malnutrition in Gaza has increased due to severe food shortages
New York, July 15 (Hibya) – UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini emphasized that child malnutrition in Gaza has worsened due to a critical shortage of food.
Lazzarini stated that one in ten children screened at UNRWA medical facilities is suffering from malnutrition.
He stressed, "Child malnutrition in Gaza has risen because of severe food shortages. Salam, a 7-month-old baby, died last week due to malnutrition."
Lazzarini noted that before the war, malnutrition was rare in Gaza: "Now it is artificial and engineered. Meanwhile, more than 870 people have died from hunger while desperately trying to access food through a broken distribution system. The UN, including UNRWA and its partners, must be allowed to do their work and deliver large-scale humanitarian aid, including to children."
