Lazzarini: Expansion of the war will lead to more suffering for civilians
New York, 28 September (Hibya) – Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), stated that further escalation of the war will lead to more suffering for civilians.
Lazzarini mentioned that Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon forced thousands of people, including Palestinian refugees, to flee their homes.
"UNRWA teams intervened, opening seven shelters for displaced persons, and we are currently hosting 1,600 people, including Lebanese, Palestinians, and Syrians. Many are traumatized due to the ongoing bombings, uncertainty, and fears," Lazzarini said.
"Further expansion of the war will lead to more suffering for civilians. Civilians must be protected. Civilian infrastructure should not be targeted," he added.
