French President Macron said he welcomed the expanded meeting on the Cyprus issue held in New York under the auspices of UN Secretary-General Guterres.

Macron stated that this new meeting, following the one held in Geneva in March and the acceptance of new cooperation initiatives announced by Guterres, is a sign of a positive dynamic aimed at rebuilding trust.

“I encourage the resumption of negotiations for a just and lasting solution to the Cyprus issue based on a bi-zonal and bi-communal federation in accordance with the parameters set by the Security Council and the Community acquis. France supports the mediation efforts of the Secretary-General and his Special Representative and stands ready to assist in this process.”
