Maserati GT2 Races for the First Time at Circuit Paul Ricard
The Maserati GT2 raced for the first time at Circuit Paul Ricard and made it to the podium with LP Racing in the final race of the 2023 Fanatec GT2 European Series.
Maserati's new racing car, reflecting the brand's competitive spirit and unveiled last June, made its debut at the Circuit Paul Ricard in the 2023 Fanatec GT2 European Series. LP Racing drivers Leonardo Gorini and Luca Pirri, thanks to the car's outstanding performance, maintained their pole position. The Maserati GT2 stood on the podium on the first day of the race and also completed the second race in 7th place among the top 10. GT2 adds another chapter to Maserati's historical and unforgettable racing moments.
The first race in the European Series represents Maserati's return to GT racing, a return to the 2000s when the MC12 sports car achieved 13 championships. This car, 100% Made in Modena, will have a prominent place in Maserati's racing car lineup in the upcoming 2024 season with its stunning design and high performance.
Maserati CEO Davide Grasso commented on the journey with the GT2: "With the return to GT racing, Maserati is writing another important page in the exciting and ambitious history of motorsport. By returning to unforgettable moments of the past, we are showcasing Maserati's identity. On the journey from the racetrack to the road, Maserati always emphasizes the thrill behind the wheel. The Maserati GT2 is our passport to the future of motorsport."
Maserati Corse President Giovanni Sgro said about the new racing car: "We couldn't have asked for a better start. Today, we proved the competitive spirit of the GT2, and we are very pleased with the result. For us, returning to the track is like coming home. Maserati has a long history in racing. Maserati's DNA is made up of passion and competition. Our DNA is reflected in both our cars and the racing cars we specially produce for the track. Seeing the Maserati GT2 at the starting line of the GT championship recalls the brand's glorious past achievements and demonstrates our commitment to being the best in motorsport."
