Mauritania eliminates trachoma as a public health problem
Geneva, May 19 (Hibya) – The World Health Organization (WHO) announced that Mauritania has eliminated trachoma as a disease.
According to a statement from WHO, Mauritania has successfully eliminated trachoma as a public health problem.
WHO emphasized its support to Mauritanian health authorities in closely monitoring communities previously affected by trachoma to ensure the disease does not resurge. The statement added: “As of April 2024, trachoma remains a public health issue in 37 countries, with approximately 103 million people living in areas requiring intervention.”
