Meloni announced that following the phone call between President Trump and President Putin, she held a new phone call with French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and the President of the United States.

She stated that efforts are underway to initiate negotiations between the parties immediately, and added:

“In this context, the Pope’s willingness to host the talks in the Vatican was positively received. Italy is ready to do its part to facilitate contacts and work for peace.”
