Meloni: Nine people detained over alleged financing of Hamas
Rome, December 27 (Hibya) – Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced that nine people alleged to have provided more than 7 million euros in financing to Hamas have been detained.
Prime Minister Meloni praised the operation carried out to detain nine individuals alleged to have financed Hamas with over 7 million euros through some so-called charitable organizations.
She stated that among those detained is Mohammad Mahmoud Ahmad Hannoun, president of the Association of Palestinians in Italy, who investigators described as a member of Hamas’s external structure and the head of the organization’s cell in Italy.
Meloni expressed her thanks, on behalf of herself and the government, to the Genoa Prosecutor’s Office, the National Anti-Mafia and Counter-Terrorism Directorate, the State Police, the Financial Police, and the intelligence service AISE for their support.
