Meloni: Respecting journalists is a duty
Rome, July 17 (Hibya) - Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni welcomed the unanimous approval by Parliament of the bill establishing a National Memorial Day dedicated to journalists who lost their lives due to their journalistic work.
Prime Minister Meloni expressed her great satisfaction with the Parliament’s unanimous approval of the bill to establish a National Memorial Day in honor of journalists who died in the line of duty.
She stated that from now on, May 3rd will be an official and meaningful day to honor those who dedicated their passion, professional skills, and courage to serving the public’s right to information.
“Names like Cosimo Cristina, Mauro De Mauro, Giovanni Spampinato, Peppino Impastato, Mario Francese, Giuseppe Fava, Mauro Rostagno, Beppe Alfano, Giancarlo Siani, Walter Tobagi, Ilaria Alpi and Miran Hrovatin, Marco Luchetta, Alessandro Saša Ota, Dario D’Angelo, Antonio Russo, Enzo Baldoni, Andrea Rocchelli, Maria Grazia Cutuli, Almerigo Grilz come to mind.”
Meloni added, “Respecting these journalists is a duty, and today this duty is guaranteed by law. We are determined to fulfill it with honor.”
