Milan Opposes Move to Name Airport After Berlusconi
Milan, 30 September (Hibya) – The Milan City Council has opposed the “strange” step to name the city’s main airport after former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, who was known for his scandals.
The council approved the decision to take the case to the administrative court of the Lombardy region after Transport Minister Matteo Salvini from Giorgia Meloni’s far-right government sped up the process of renaming Malpensa Airport.
Salvini has been pushing for the airport to be named after the billionaire media mogul since his death in June last year, and after Italy's civil aviation authority Enac gave the plan the green light this summer, it was approved.
Normally, a 10-year waiting period is required after a person's death before their name can be given to a public place.
