President of Montenegro Jakov Milatovic has called the Defense and Security Council for an urgent meeting due to the rise in street violence and clashes between criminal gangs.

Milatovic stated that the meeting will be held in the shortest legally prescribed time, adding: “In addition to the Speaker of Parliament and the Prime Minister, who are members of the Council, representatives of the government responsible for security, as well as heads of key security institutions such as the Police Directorate and the National Security Agency, will also be invited.”

Regarding the meeting, Milatovic said:

“I request from the relevant institutions: a detailed assessment of the current situation and the presentation of clear, decisive, and immediately applicable measures to ensure and protect public safety. Citizens must feel that the state is behind them. Due to the seriousness of the situation, I expect full participation from all invited members and participants.”
