Ministers resign as government reshuffle expected in Ukraine
Stockholm, September 4 (Hibya) - At least six senior Ukrainian officials, including cabinet members, have resigned from their posts ahead of an expected major government reshuffle.
The resignations leave some top government posts vacant, including the minister for strategic industry, who is responsible for arms production, the BBC reported.
The changes came after the parliamentary leader of the ruling Servant of the People party said half the cabinet would be replaced by a major government reshuffle this week.
The reshuffle comes as Ukraine continues to grapple with daily Russian bombardment of its cities and seeks to curb Moscow's gains in the east while trying to fund Russia's offensive in the Kursk region.
Strategic Industry Minister Alexander Kamyshin, Justice Minister Denys Maliuska, Environmental Protection Minister Ruslan Strilets, Deputy Prime Ministers Olha Stefanishyna and Iryna Vereshchuk, and Vitaliy Koval, head of Ukraine's State Property Fund, resigned on Tuesday.
Rostyslav Shurma, one of the President's most senior aides, was also dismissed by presidential decree.
Opposition MP Iryna Gerashchenko criticized the government's cabinet reshuffle, calling it “a government without ministers. A parliament without a single majority. An intellectual and personnel crisis ignored by the authorities.” She called for a unity government and an end to President Zelensky's political team's dominance in power.
On the day the changes were announced, 51 people were killed and 271 injured in an attack on the Russian city of Poltava.
