NASA to Lay Off 530 Due to Budget Cuts
The U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announced that 530 employees of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) will be laid off due to budget cuts.
In a statement from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), it was reported that after exhausting all other measures for NASA to adjust to a lower budget and due to the lack of appropriations from Congress for fiscal year 24, a difficult decision had to be made to reduce JPL's workforce through layoffs.
The statement also indicated that the workforce reduction would impact approximately 530 individuals, roughly 8 percent of the workforce, and also affect approximately 40 additional members of the contractor workforce, and that the effects would be pronounced in both technical and support areas of the laboratory.
