Nearly ten million people are homeless in Sudan
Stockholm, June 8 (Hibia) – According to data from the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the number of people displaced within Sudan's borders may exceed ten million in the coming days. This figure corresponds to approximately twenty percent of Sudan's total population.
The organization states that the refugee crisis in Sudan is the worst ever and is growing more significant day by day as the country's conflicts continue and the lack of food and healthcare increases.
Data released this week by the IOM shows that 9.9 million people are homeless in the country's eighteen provinces. There were approximately eight million more people homeless in Sudan than before the conflict broke out between the Sudanese army and RSF rebels in April last year.
A total of twelve million people were forced to leave their homes, and two million of them fled to neighbouring countries.
