Netanyahu seeks assurances that Hamas will not take control of border
Stockholm, September 5 (Hibya) - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he was willing to accept a permanent ceasefire in Gaza only if the agreement ensures that Hamas will never control the so-called Philadelphia Gate on Gaza's border with Egypt.
Israelis believe the group will use the terms to smuggle weapons into Gaza and hostages from Gaza. Control of the Philadelphia Gate is one of the main sticking points in the Gaza ceasefire talks.
Relatives of hostages held by Hamas have criticized Netanyahu, saying he is focusing on military operations in Gaza and not on freeing the hostages.
There has been anger in Israel after six hostages were found dead in Gaza in recent days, with claims that the Israeli hostages were killed just days before their bodies were found.
