Number of flood victims in Brazil reaches 95
Stockholm, May 9 (Hibya) - Due to heavy rains and floods that occurred in the Rio Grande do Sul region in Brazil, at least 95 people have lost their lives.
According to reports from Brazilian media, more than 155,000 people have been forced to leave their homes due to the rains and floods. According to authorities, over 360 people have been injured, and 131 people are missing. The Brazilian Meteorological Agency predicts the continuation of rainfall.
While the governor of Rio Grande do Sul has declared a state of emergency, Brazilian President Lula da Silva has promised to provide funding to address the current crisis.
In response to the Rio Grande do Sul flood disaster, Brazil mobilized a fleet, including support ships, along with the largest warship - the Multi-Purpose Aircraft Carrier "Atlântico".
"Atlântico", equipped for large-scale humanitarian missions, has an integrated water purification system capable of producing up to 20,000 litres of drinking water per hour.
