U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio commented on the possibility of future negotiations with Iran.

Rubio said, "If you sign an agreement and then violate it, that agreement is no longer valid. That does not mean a new agreement cannot be reached in the future. However, any agreement will be judged by whether its terms are respected."

Emphasizing that the United States supports a diplomatic solution, Rubio said, "We are open to diplomacy. We are also open to resolving this issue through negotiations. However, it does not appear that they are taking this seriously at the moment. Therefore, we will continue to protect maritime shipping, and when the opportunity arises, we will weaken their ability to target global maritime shipping."
